On September 13, 2025, our representative Yuki presented our activities at the "Parenting Forum 2025" held in Uji City, Kyoto Prefecture.
Part 1: Keynote Lecture
Professor Shingo Noi from the University of Education in Japan gave an insightful keynote about essential elements in children’s development.
Here are some of the key takeaways:
Challenges faced by elementary school children post-COVID:
Increased fatigue, declining eyesight, reduced communication skills, and clumsy physical movement. What children need most:
Movement and social interaction (group play). In today’s world (Society 5.0, GIGA School Initiative), it’s crucial that parents consciously foster these aspects. Not just screen time—green time is vital too!
Ensuring children spend time outdoors is key for balanced development.Creating engaging environments:
Structuring daily life with attention to time management and providing exciting experiences for kids can make a big difference. Most importantly, for children to thrive, their parents need to be well and thriving too!
Part 2: Organization Introductions
As a member organization of the Uji Childcare Network, Mountain House and Tsunagaru Salon introduced our initiatives.
We shared how our project, which started with renovating a traditional kominka in Yamazoe Village, Nara, has expanded to support multicultural families in parenting. We also talked about the impact of our activities and future plans.
Part 3: Talk Session
In the final part, a talk session was held with the Mayor of Uji, guest speaker, and participating organizations. The session included Q&A with the audience and thoughtful discussions on parenting perspectives and current challenges.
Closing Words
We hope this forum inspires ongoing efforts to improve parenting environments. Let’s continue working together—across the whole community—to support one another and create a better future for our children!
